Amorphous

Driven by government legislation, electrical utilities and transformer manufacturers are now looking for innovative ways to increase transformer efficiencies.

Compared with conventional transformer cores, amorphous metal distribution transformer cores (AMDTs) can achieve a reduction of approximately 70% in no-load loss.

Metglas™  amorphous metal, is only 0.001” thick and is therefore used predominantly in distributed gap, wound core applications, in transformers where an ultra low no-load loss is required. Ultra efficient single-phase and three-phase transformers made with amorphous metal alloy are the key to improving utility economics and enhancing energy conservation efforts worldwide. That’s where Cogent comes in.

Cogent now offers a complete range of amorphous cores from our proprietary manufacturing equipment, which assures consistently high product quality. In addition to having ultra low, 60Hz, transformer no-load loss properties, amorphous also performs exceptionally well at very high frequencies. As a result, it can be operated at high frequencies in special applications to achieve “miniaturization”.
