Cogent Power Inc.— formerly CorMag Inc.— began operation in 1970. Since then, we have steadily grown in order to expand our products and services within the Canadian and U.S. transformer market.
In 1993, we doubled our core production by entering into a three-year partnership as the sole supplier to a major transformer manufacturer of DG cores. Also in 1993, CorMag moved its operations into a larger 80,000 square foot facility.
Cogent continues to grow to meet our clients' needs.
In 1996, CorMag installed and began operation of a new line to slit premium steels from Nippon Steel and JFE of Japan, as well as Orb Electrical Steels of the UK.
In 2000, CorMag's parent company, European Electrical Steels (EES), purchased one of its largest customers, Keinle & Speiss, headquartered in Germany. From this fundamental shift in strategy and focus, EES became a much more integrated "downstream" business and, in early 2001, changed its name to Cogent Power Ltd. CorMag Inc. subsequently became Cogent Power Inc. and also incorporated that name change with its plants in Bridgeport, Connecticut and Monterrey, Mexico. 2001 also saw the formation of Cogent Power Inc, which resulted from a major restructuring in the market.
Cogent Power Inc. centralized its North American operations in 2003 by moving its Burlington, Ontario plant to a larger state-of-the-art facility. For most of its history, Cogent Power has focused on the production and sale of annealed core products. However, since expanding into the supply of slit steels, Cogent Power has become the supplier of choice for transformer cores and steel products in the North American market. |
